Elements of Ceramics
There is no greater joy in life than the joy of creating something

Artist Statement
Elements of Ceramics was my first time using a wheel. I have had previous experience sculpting but never throwing. I learned to throw and hand build with clay. When I began to create my piece I knew I wanted to create something unique. I had the idea to throw mugs with circular handles to create and interesting silhouette. I slab-built some trays to create a contrast of geometric shapes against my organic mugs. When it came to glazing my mugs and trays I struggled to choose a glaze technique. Originally I wanted to marble my pieces, but I came up with a unique way to glaze them that no one else was doing instead. I dipped the mugs and trays in white glaze. I then dripped glaze in to abstract lines on a sponge and wrapped the sponge around my work. I used bright blues and greens contrasted with neutral greys. My work is modern with very organic and natural details on them. I hope my work makes the viewer feel calm when looking at it. I hope to take more art classes in the future and to continue my ceramics career at Trinity. |
